Meet Our Talented Eye Doctors
Dr. S. Grant Smith
Dr. Smith graduated Magna Cum Laude from LeTourneau College in Longview, Texas in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science Degree.
He attended Medical School at the Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha Nebraska, where he graduated in 1987 with his Doctorate of Medicine.
Dr. Smith completed his internship at Scott and White Hospital in Temple, Texas. He was a fellow in corneal research at the University of Texas Medical School in San Antonio. Dr. Smith was in residence at the Louisiana State University Medical School in Shreveport, Louisiana. He graduated from medical school with honors and is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Smith has been board certified since 1994.
Dr. Smith and his wife, Lisa, are raising their family in New Braunfels.

He attended graduate school at the University of North Texas Health Sciences Center in Fort Worth, Texas where he completed a Master’s degree in Clinical Research. His thesis work was presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology meeting in New Orleans in 2004.
He attended medical school at Texas Tech University School of Medicine in Lubbock, Texas, where he graduated in 2008 with his Doctorate of Medicine.
Dr. Levar completed his surgical internship at Baylor in Houston, Texas and residency in ophthalmology at Loyola in Chicago, Illinois. His research involving ophthalmic pharmacology was presented at the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery meeting in Miami in 2011. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Jessica L. Tompkins
During her externship rotations, Dr. Tompkins received extensive training in specialty contact lenses, keratoconus, neuro-optometric rehabilitation for brain injuries, diagnosis and treatment of ocular diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy, as well as co-management care for INTACS, PRK, and LASIK procedures. Her special interests include contact lenses and dry eye management.
Dr. Tompkins is a therapeutic optometrist and glaucoma specialist. She is a member of the Texas Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association.
Dr. Tompkins feels very blessed to be a part of the NBVC team and loves living in New Braunfels. When not examining eyes, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, snow skiing, water sports, and volunteering for the New Braunfels area Young Life.

Melody
My name is Melody. I started working at New Braunfels Vision Center in April of 2011. In 2013, I became the Billing & Remits Coordinator for NBVC. In 2017, I was promoted to office manager.
I earned an Interior Design degree in 2009 at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. I also earned a degree in Medical Administration at Everest Institute in San Antonio in 2011.
In my spare time, I love spending time with my family and friends. I am a huge sports fan. I have attended MLB, NFL and NBA games. I truly love the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Longhorns and of course the San Antonio Spurs!
Go Cowboys!! Hook ’em Horns!! And last but not least, Go Spurs Go!!

My name is Mika and I am the Surgery Coordinator here at New Braunfels Vision Center. I came to NBVC in July of 2013 and truly enjoy working with the patients and staff!
I am a New Braunfels native which means I love the river and everything else this area has to offer! In my spare time, I enjoy singing karaoke, working out and spending time with my 2 awesome children!

Hello, my name is Barbara. I am a Texas native born and raised in San Antonio. I have been very fortunate to have been to many parts of the world courtesy of The United States Air Force and Navy. I am the mother of four beautiful children and I now call Cibolo my home where I live with my wonderful husband and 2 two youngest daughters.
I have been with New Braunfels Vision Center since February 2008. I feel blessed to work for such wonderful and educated doctors that genuinely care for their patients and staff.
In my free time, I love spending as much time as possible with my family, cooking and the San Antonio Spurs!!!

Hello, my name is Andrea Romero. I was fortunate to join the NBVC team in March 2016.
I was born in New Braunfels however, I graduated from Stockdale High School in 2011. I have been privileged to gain my eye care knowledge from our skilled doctors and educated staff.
When not working, I enjoy spending my time at the gym, with family and friends, and also with my sweet basset hound Layla.

Hi! My name is Rachel and I am a Texas native. I have been married to my wonderful husband since 2014. I studied Family and Consumer Science at Texas State. I have been with NBVC since 2017 and I love being part of a great team of doctors and staff who care about their patients. When I am not at work, I love spending time with my husband, traveling, and exploring new things.

Hi, I’m Diana Cervantes. I’ve been married to the same wonderful man (Raymond) for over 31 years. I have 2 beautiful daughters and a precious grandson.
I’ve been working in ophthalmology since 1998 and have been employed by New Braunfels Vision Center since 2002. I enjoy every aspect of working in the ophthalmic field, such as pressure checks, manifest refractions, glaucoma testing, and assisting with minor procedures. I’ve been asked what I like most about working in ophthalmology and I would have to say, without a doubt, the patients!

Hello! My name is Ashley Romero. I am an ophthalmic technician here at NBVC. I became a member of the team on August of 2015.
I attended school for medical assistant and shortly afterwards I went back to school and received my associate’s degree in an allied health program at Sanford Brown in San Antonio, TX.
I was born and raised in New Braunfels. I graduated from NBHS as class of 2011. In my spare time, I love to spend time with my significant other of 4 years and I also love to spend quality time with family.

Hi I’m Tony Aleman. I am from New Braunfels and I am married and have 2 beautiful daughters, Melenie and Nadia.
I have been employed by New Braunfels Vision Center since 2015 after I finished my externship here and then was hired on full time.
I love spending time with my family and friends. I also enjoy playing Billiards and drawing every now and then and watching Disney movies with my daughters.

Hi, my name is Cindy Goodwin. I am an optician with 40 years in the ophthalmology/optical field. I am so blessed to work for wonderful doctors and staff in a beautiful optical shop. I enjoy working with people and my job is very rewarding. My hobbies include gardening, cooking, music, and spending time with my grandchildren.

Hello, my name is Adriana. I am a wife and mother of 3, two boys and one girl. My boys are grown and on their own and my daughter is in high school. As a family, we are all certified scuba divers and look forward to going on vacation together. I also enjoy spending time at the firing range whenever possible.
I started working for New Braunfels Vision Center in August 1999. After 2 years, I moved in the NBVC Optical and as the business grew, I also worked in the optical lab.
Now I am currently working in the brand new optical alongside Yao and Jodi. We, as well as our patients, enjoy the new space tremendously.

Hello, my name is Yahoska or “Yao” for short. I was born in Nicaragua and I now live in Schertz. I am a wife and a mother with 2 beautiful children.
I’ve been working in the optical field for over 10 years now and joined the NBVC team in July 2016. I love to work with patients. I like to make them feel special and help them to find what glasses fit their needs.
When I am not working, I enjoy spending quality time with my family and at my church.
